History of the Alagappa Collaborative Programme at Anugraha Institute of Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Research
The Anugraha Institute of Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Research, located in Nochiodaipatti, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, is a distinguished center committed to advancing mental health through education, clinical training, research, and community outreach. Founded with a deep commitment to psychological well-being, Anugraha serves as a dynamic platform where academic excellence and compassionate care come together.
Foundation and Leadership of the Collaborative Programme
The collaborative programme was founded in 2018 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lawrence Soosinathan, who envisioned a dynamic academic platform that would integrate rigorous psychological education with real-world therapeutic application.
In 2023, Rev. Dr. J. George Bernardshaw assumed leadership of the Alagappa Collaborative Programme at Anugraha. Under his guidance, the programme continues to evolve and expand to meet contemporary mental health needs and academic standards.
Academic Evolution
From 2018 to 2022, the programme offered a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Applied Psychology, combining core academic learning with experiential training.
In 2023, the course was restructured and renamed M.Sc. Psychology to reflect broader theoretical coverage and updated academic frameworks.
Alongside the master’s program, the collaborative initiative also introduced certificate-level courses to address focused areas of practice:
Certificate Course in Family Counseling – Ongoing
This course remains active and provides practical skills for working with families facing relational, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
Certificate Course in Healing the Inner Child – Discontinued in 2023
While initially well-received, this course was removed from the curriculum in 2023 due to a decrease in demand.
Current Academic Offering
M.Sc. Psychology
Certificate Course in Family Counseling
A comprehensive two-year postgraduate program offering deep academic grounding and hands-on training in the fields of counseling, psychological assessment, and therapeutic intervention
A short-term, skill-based program designed for counselors, educators, and helping professionals who support families in various settings.
The Alagappa Collaborative Programme at Anugraha continues to play a vital role in preparing skilled and compassionate professionals in the mental health field. Graduates of the program are now serving in educational institutions, healthcare systems, pastoral settings, NGOs, and counseling centers across India and beyond.
This collaborative venture remains rooted in a mission of academic excellence, psychological healing, and service to humanity.
